Following in the illustrious footsteps of last year’s breakout star Trent Dalton, the winner of the 2020 MUD Literary Prize is Sienna Brown with Master of My Fate. Telling a little-known sliver of Australian convict history, Master of My Fate is a fascinating journey into the life of William Buchanan, from his early life as a slave in Jamaica, to his role in the slave uprisings in the 1830s, to his transportation to and eventual freedom in colonial New South Wales. An unputdownable, illuminating debut.

David Sly is a writer, author and editor with a career spanning over forty years.

Sienna Brown was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and grew up in Canada. A daughter of Jamaican parents and lifelong storyteller, Sienna is a professional dancer, film editor and documentary director. She previously worked at Sydney Living Museums, where she first came across the story of William Buchanan, which became her first novel, Master of My Fate. She is currently working on her second novel.
