1962
The 1962 Adelaide Festival was held from Saturday, March 17 to Saturday, March 31, led by Artistic Director John Bishop.
Bishop’s second festival included Yehudi and Hephzibah Menuhin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, the Bashkar Dance Company from India, Benjamin Britten's Noye's Fludde, Zoe Caldwell in Shaw's St Joan; the Dave Brubeck Quartet and celebrated naturalist David Attenborough.
The festival was not without controversy – the festival governors thought Bishop’s plans to fly in 12 top instrumentalists “ridiculously expensive”. The concerts sold out.
